Southwest Florida Music Education Center

The Southwest Florida Music Education Center serves neurodivergent young adults with a strong interest in music. We provide a holistic music education experience for neurodivergent individuals who have the following profile at the time of program enrollment:

Include ages 18-30 with low to moderate support needs
Demonstrates mostly independent self-care skills
Exhibit intermediate level or higher music skills,
as demonstrated on one or more instrument(s), including voice,
percussion, strings, guitar, piano/keyboard

Best Buddies

Best Buddies is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Through the simple acts of making friends, supporting work placement and integration, leadership trainings, and inclusive living, Best Buddies is the world’s only nonprofit committed to eradicating the social isolation of people with disabilities through programs that engage and include youth and adults with disabilities and their peers. Founded in 1989 by Anthony K. Shriver, Best Buddies has grown to over 2,900 elementary school, middle school, high school, and college chapters worldwide. Best Buddies programs engage participants in each of the 50 United States and over 50 countries around the world.

Vocational Rehabilitation

Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) is a federal-state program that helps people who have disabilities get or keep a job. VR is committed to helping people with disabilities find meaningful careers. Project SEARCH

Project SEARCH is a one-year internship program for students with disabilities between the ages of 18-21. It is targeted to students whose goal is competitive

employment. The program takes place at NCH Baker Downtown Hospital, where students will participate in three unpaid internships to explore a variety of career paths.

Students begin and end each day with classroom instruction on the NCH campus. The following topics will be covered throughout the program: Team Building, Workplace Safety, Financial Literacy, Health and Wellness, Technology, Self-Advocacy, Preparing for Employment, and Maintaining Employment.

Trailblazer Academy

Our pioneering outreach program, the Trailblazer Academy, offers community-based skill development experiences for young adults, whether they are on a path to life enrichment or have vocational aspirations.

We began offering the Trailblazer Academy curriculum on virtual platforms in March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
